Rescued from a near-extinct variety from Spain, it has perfumes of red berries and pepper on the nose. The palate is savoury and textured, framed with balanced natural acidity and tannins, filled with raspberries, violets and spice.
Rare, savoury and seriously interesting, Maturana Tinta is a variety that appeals to adventurous red wine drinkers. Today it is closely associated with Rioja in Spain, where it is valued for its colour, acidity and structure, although DNA work also links it to the nearly disappeared French variety Castets. In the glass, expect dark berries, violet notes, spice and a savoury, textured palate with natural freshness.
At our boutique Granite Belt winery, Maturana Tinta is grown on-site and crafted in small batches, giving customers access to a truly uncommon variety with estate-grown authenticity.
Serve at 16–18°C with roast lamb, chargrilled beef, tapas-style dishes or aged hard cheeses. It is an ideal bottle for wine lovers chasing something rare, structured and conversation-worthy.
